FAQs
Is Timeero MCP the same as the Public API?
No. The Public API is the REST API developers use directly. Timeero MCP is a secure bridge that lets AI assistants use that API through natural conversation.
What plan do I need?
A Timeero plan with Public API access (Premium plan). Contact your Timeero account representative if you are unsure.
Where do I find my API key?
Go to Integrations → Public API → Configuration. See also Public API Integration.
What is the Timeero MCP URL?
Connection and permission FAQs
Can I prevent the AI from changing or deleting data?
Yes. Leave Write and Delete unchecked on the authorize screen.
To change permissions later in Claude, disconnect the Timeero MCP connector and connect again. Claude will ask you to choose permissions and authorize access.
For other MCP clients, open Manage permissions, update write/delete access, then reload the MCP tools in your client.
I granted write access but the AI still cannot create or update records
- Confirm write (and delete, if needed) under Manage permissions.
- Start a new chat after changing permissions.
- Approve any tool confirmation prompts in your AI client.
How do I disconnect or rotate access?
- Revoke or regenerate your Public API key in Timeero under Integrations → Public API → Configuration.
- Remove or reconnect the Timeero connector in your AI client.
Using the tools
Are there date-range limits?
Hours and mileage reports cover up to 366 days per request. Listing schedules and time off is limited to 30 days per request. Split longer schedule or time-off periods into multiple requests.
The AI cannot find an employee or job
- Use the exact name as it appears in Timeero, or provide the numeric ID.
- Ask the AI to list users, jobs, or groups first, then retry with the exact match.
Troubleshooting
Connector will not authenticate
- Confirm the MCP URL is https://mcp.timeero.com/mcp.
- Paste a freshly copied Public API key with no extra spaces.
- Disable browser blockers for the Timeero connect page temporarily.
- Try again in a private/incognito window.
Tools appear, but every request fails
- Your key may have been revoked - generate a new key and reconnect.
- Your plan may not include Public API access.
- Confirm https://mcp.timeero.com is online, or contact api@timeero.com.
